The biggest similarity between listening and hearing is that both words use your ears. Listening is very important to do on a daily basis. What is the similarities between listening and hearing? – We heard a terrible noise when the cars crashed in front of our house. Hear means that sounds come into your ears whether you want it or not, while listen means that you consciously pay attention to what you hear, that is you want to hear something: … – I’m listening, but I can’t hear anything. As one of the five senses, hearing happens all the time and is the involuntary receiving of sound vibrations or waves through our ears. Hearing is much easier than listening because hearing is an involuntary physical ability involving the ears. Merriam-Webster defines hearing as the “process, function, or power of perceiving sound specifically: the special sense by which noises and tones are received as stimuli.” Listening, on the other hand, means “to pay attention to sound to hear something with thoughtful attention and to give consideration.” What is the main difference between hearing and listening? As they speak, you will start to understand what their experience was like and the impact it had on them. Listening with the intent to understand is referred to as active listening.įor example, if you’re listening to someone talk about a difficult day they had at work, you will probably have your full attention focused on them. In turn, you may develop an emotional response to what you hear. Listening is an active, voluntary, and intentional process that involves making sense of the words and sounds you hear it requires your attention. It does not require focused attention.įor example, if you’re watching television, you can still hear the sound of traffic or sirens outside, your neighbor’s dog barking, and people laughing in the hallway. It is a physiological response that involves our perception of sound. Hearing is a passive, involuntary, and sensory process in which we perceive sounds. The saying ‘In one ear, out the other’ speaks to the difference between hearing and listening.

Overall, our results suggest that research on decision-making competence would benefit by expanding the definition of competence, by including decision-related abilities in terms of social skills and time-approach. The predictive power for each of these three aspects of decision-making competence was explored for different indicators of real-life decision-making success. In Study 2 and 3, targeting two different samples of professionals, we explored if the prevalent cognitively oriented definition of decision-making competence could be beneficially expanded by adding aspects of competence in terms of social skills and time-approach. In Study 1, using a web-based questionnaire and targeting a community sample, we investigated the relationships between objective and subjective indicators of real-life decision-making success. What distinguishes a competent decision maker and how should the issue of decision quality be approached in a real-life context? These questions were explored in three studies. Let's get circular and choose to reuse! However, other things being equal, full-size SD cards are generally faster than small ones. I assumed most of us needed different sizes, so it's handy if all your devices use the microSD format. Obviously, you can't fit an SD card into a miniSD or microSD slot. You can use a miniSD or microSD card in an SD card slot by plugging it into an SD-sized adapter, and some mini/micro cards are sold with them. This resulted in the miniSD format, measuring 21.5 x 20mm, and then microSD cards, measuring 11 x 15mm. These are still common in digital cameras, audio recorders and similar products. The original format started with cards measuring 32 x 24mm, which was very small for the time. When buying an SD card, you have to consider three things: the physical size, the storage capacity, and the speed at which it can write data. For this sort of application, you'll probably need a fast card. If you want to shoot high-definition videos, keeping up can be a challenge. However, if you want to shoot a rapid sequence of photos, the card has to be fast enough to keep up. The result is the chaos we enjoy today.įor standard applications like single-shot compact cameras, it doesn't matter which class of SD card you buy, as long as it's compatible. But as usage grew, people began to need different speeds and sizes. Does it matter which class of card is used? Mark Campbell Secure digital (SD) cards started out as a wonderfully simple Flash storage format, and quickly replaced CompactFlash, MMC and other types of card. We use microSD cards in compact cameras, Samsung and Nokia Lumia smartphones, and for storing and saving games in our original Wii. Reading an article by the organisation that sets and regulates SD card performance standards ( Greater Performance Choice) made me even more confused. I was shopping online for some new microSD cards and got thoroughly confused by the different classes/speeds. Fish shell is a modern command-line interface with auto-suggestions, tab completion, and syntax highlighting (among other features). The player in merfolk form resembles the Zombie Merman and Icy Merman enemies. Easy defaults and customization with fish shell. The name of the item refers to Neptune, Roman god of the sea.An easier/faster way to get the Neptune's Shell is by placing a Water Candle and/or consuming the Battle Potion because the Solar Eclipse does not have a set spawn rate.Half of the ingredients can be obtained pre-Hardmode, so it pays to collect them as early as possible.Wearing a Fish Bowl will activate the Merfolk buff. This is merely the appearance of the Merfolk, the buff will not take effect while it is equipped as a vanity (meaning caution should be taken when in water, as the player will need to watch their breath meter). Neptune's Shell can also be equipped as a vanity accessory, which causes the Merfolk form to appear regardless of whether the player is in water. The Merfolk effect takes priority over the benefits of Moon Charm and its upgrades, causing the player to lose Werewolf's bonuses while in water.Landing in and "jumping" from water alone (by swimming up past the surface), without touching land, does not reset flight time for wings or variants of Rocket Boots.Neptune's Shell does not function in lava, regardless if the player is immune or not.Swimming in honey activates all the perks of Merfolk but does not allow the player to move at full speed, as Honey naturally slows players.Swimming speed nears that of flying through air with wings.Neptune's Shell can be considered an upgrade from the Diving Gear in most respects, but lacks the extra mobility on ice of the Arctic Diving Gear and the extra lighting underwater of the Jellyfish Necklace. Neptune's Shell can now be obtained as a drop from a Creature from the Deep.
You can tap to highlight a specific portion of the text, then hit Insert to put only those words into your note. If you hit this icon, the scanned text will appear in a preview inside the camera window. The selected text will appear in your note as a preview.įrom here, you can tap Insert to immediately dump the scanned text into your note, or you can tap the scan text icon (four corners of a square around three lines) to further refine your selection. You can direct its attention by moving your device closer to what you want to scan or simply zooming in with the camera. You’ll have to make sure there’s just one source of text in view, because the tool can only grab one block of text at a time, and it will decide what to focus on. Line your camera up with whatever you want to scan, and your iPhone or iPad will highlight the words it’s picking up. A camera window will appear on the screen. Open any note, tap the camera icon, and choose Scan Text from the four options in the emerging menu. I’ll use Apple’s Notes app for this walkthrough, as it appears the text-scanning shortcut was built for it, but you can apply the same principles across your mobile operating system. But this shortcut only works with more recent iPads, the iPhone XR and later phones (tough luck if you have the iPhone X), and it doesn’t work with every language.īut if you have a piece of tech that supports this feature, you should definitely learn how it works. Of these ways, EaseUS MobiMover is the most ideal one compared with the other three methods for its high transfer speed, simple operation, and safe transfer way. These devices have always had the ability to scan documents and pull text from photos, but this new shortcut is the fastest, easiest way to get the job done. Also, make sure that you have installed iCloud for Windows on your computer. First, make sure that the "Note" has been enabled in the Settings. If you have fewer than 5GB of notes on your iPad, iCloud is an extremely convenient option for exporting notes. Tap on the share icon at the top right of the menu, and select Mail. Now, you can get this powerful software downloaded on your computer and start to send notes from iPad to PC.
It’s a deeply affecting movie, not least because, as Henson says, “this incredible story was somehow left out of history”, and if it’s a bit corny in parts (there’s a moment when Kevin Costner, as Johnson’s line manager, rips down a segregated bathroom sign and shouts, “Here at Nasa, we all pee the same colour!”), the performances outshine the script. I’m larger than life, so I had to sit on that energy.” Hidden Figures won the Screen Actors Guild award for outstanding performance by a cast last month and is nominated for three Oscars. If anything, she says, playing quiet took more effort, “to keep all of that in. If it was aggravating to be considered “too street” by most casting agents, Henson recognises that, with Katherine Johnson, she is playing against type: the actor identifies much more closely with Cookie than with the quiet, undemonstrative mathematician. In 2008’s The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. “Am I going to complain, or am I going to do something about it?” Meanwhile, Henson learned to bite her tongue and pick her battles. In 2009, she won an Oscar nomination for her supporting role as Queenie in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, a movie for which she was paid a fraction of the salary of her more famous co-stars, and for years that is how it went: small parts, bad pay – at least relative to the Hollywood average – and the scramble for too few roles in which an African American woman might be cast. If you don’t know her, you may still recognise Henson’s face from years of spadework on shows such as CSI, Boston Legal and ER. If you know her, it’s probably from Empire, the hit TV show in which she plays Cookie Lyon, a fiercely ambitious hip-hop impresario and a woman who, Henson says with some understatement, “if you say something wrong to, is going to come back and have her rebuttal”. Today, Henson is in a New York hotel room, shimmering with exhaustion and the thrill, after years of playing second and third fiddle in movies, of assuming a starring role. The implication is clear: just look how far we’ve come. The film opens in the 1950s, with Johnson being harassed by a white cop when her car breaks down on the way to work, and closes with footage of President Obama giving the now 98-year-old the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Some of the impact of Hidden Figures, a movie in which Taraji P Henson stars as Katherine Johnson, a brilliant mathematician and one of the few African American women at Nasa during the early part of the space programme, comes from the assumption of progress. It does sound slightly better and you’re almost guaranteed to get a perfect pressing, and if not, just exchange it. This is one of my all time favorite jazz records so I’m going to start looking for a pristine ‘59 6 eye but again if you can’t find one for under $35, just get the AP. There’s something special about hearing an original pressing from 1959 that makes me like it a bit more than the AP. Sunday marks the centennial of his birth. His 1959 album Time Out was the first jazz album to sell a million copies. There were lots pressed but they pretty much all got played a lot so expect surface noise and groove damage and be pleasantly surprised if you get a good copy. Brubeck, who died in 2012, was a celebrated pianist. That’s getting pretty hard to do, not many of these left in the wild that are better than VG. In conclusion, I would go for a 6 eye stereo if you can find one for less than $35 (the cost of the AP 33). It makes you want to hear what an unplayed 6 eye would sound like. Still quite an impressive LP for being recorded over 60 years ago. Like a lot of audiophile records, you could say it almost sounds like you’re in the room with the quartet. The AP is just slightly more real sounding, less like a recording and more like a live performance. The 6 eye stereo and the AP are harder to pick between. Pick one of these up if you just want a cheap copy of this record in your collection but don’t care enough to pay more than $5-$10. This one isn’t too bad, I only paid $10 for it and it was my first jazz LP, but it does not have nearly as good of a soundstage of the 6 eye stereo and AP. The stereo mix is superior for this album IMO. It sounds like your speakers are inside of a cardboard box with a hole cut into it. My copy is in pretty terrible shape, found it without a cover, but even so, the mix is just closed up. Just did a quick comparison of the 4 pressings I own: But.why do they always choose this one (aside from quality and popularity trajectories shared by surely dozens of others in their legacy) as the "control product" (the go-to placebo in drug research, when the other test market gets the real thing)? Yes, we all know of its' quality and performance, as well as the effect it had on a music fan who was four or five generations ago. Is it some really young exec who thinks Columbia only made one jazz album.and only knows that one from a picture he once saw in Clive Davis' office? Is it some guy in Iron Mountain with some sort of a, "last-in, first-back-out" fetish? Is there some shadowy figure all the way down the hall who only comes out of his office once a Solstice, to wring his hands and bellow, "WAIT!.First, let's see what it sounds like on, 'Time Ouuut'! Bwah-hah-hah-hah-haaahhhhhh.!", and slink back into his chamber with a creak and slam of the door? I wonder what the politics inside the company are, that has placed this particular recording into the priority pipeline whenever older classics have been chosen to best represent whatever innovation, reissue series or market-re-entry is on their agenda.
